Basic:Jewel Socketing

From Wizard101 Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Jewels are magical items that can be affixed to your Wizard's Amulets, Athames, Rings, and even Decks. These Jewels can be obtained from Quests, Creature drops, Crafting, and Fishing Chests.

Special Sockets located within our gear allow us to hold specific Jewels. These Jewels come in four shapes: Circle, Square, Tear, and Triangle. The Jewels we acquire give us different attributes having to do with damage, accuracy, critical, resistance, etc. Some Jewels can even add Item Cards to Wizards' decks.

Jewels might seem very cool, however, there is also a Crafting process that goes along with these Items.

Are you ready to bring the bling? Players can now add Jewels to many of their Amulets, Athames, Rings and Decks! Wizards level 15 and above who have completed the crafting quest The Razor's Edge will need to visit Eloise Merryweather in the Wizard City Commons to take on the quest Digging Into A New Challenge.

Katherine RockHammer, in her newly opened shop in the Shopping District, will teach you the ways of Jewel Socketing. A new button has appeared on the bottom of the screen when Wizards view their Amulets, Athames, Rings and Decks. Wizards are then allowed to select the item they would like to socket and then click 'Add Jewels.'

The great thing about Jewels is that they apply various attributes to your items. However, some item boosts are not a percentage, but are 'flat'. 'Flat' bonuses add specified whole number bonuses such as "+25 Damage" or "+33 Resistance".

Sockets

Square Triangle Circle Tear

Items can have up to four sockets, each in one of four shapes: Square, Triangle, Circle or Tear. To socket a Jewel, it must match the shape of the available socket. Select the Jewel you would like to place in the socket and click “Affix.” This will add the Jewel to the item and give the corresponding stat increase associated with the Jewel. Each Jewel has a minimum level requirement and can only be used by Wizards that level or above.

Socket Wrenches

Some sockets on items may be locked, indicated by a lock icon. These can be unlocked by using Crowns or a Socket Wrench. Socket Wrenches are obtained by defeating bosses throughout the Spiral and come in 6 different types: Novice, Adept, Expert, Master, Artisan and Grandmaster. Socket Wrenches can be placed on the walls of your house for display.

Each Jewel can only be placed in a socket once. If you decide later that you’d like to remove the jewel, it will be destroyed. To remove a socketed Jewel, click on the name of the Jewel and choose “Shatter” in the Jewel Socketing window. Once a Jewel has been shattered from a socket, you can place a new Jewel in the empty socket and continually improve your favorite items.

How to Affix Jewels

The Socketing page is where you'll physically affix your Jewels into special slots - called sockets - on your socketable items.

(Basic) Jewel Socketing Guide 1.png

Jewels have distinct shapes that only fit into correstponding sockets. Socketable items come with varying numbers and shapes of sockets.

(Basic) Jewel Socketing Guide 2.png

Now, notice that our Athame only has a triangle socket. Lucky for us, our Cracked Accurate Opal is a triangle cut. It's a perfect fit.

(Basic) Jewel Socketing Guide 3.png

And voila! Our Athame has now been imbued with the magic of the Cracked Accurate Opal, which gives us an accuracy stat boost in a duel!

(Basic) Jewel Socketing Guide 4.png

Each Jewel can only be placed into a socket once. Although you can remove a Jewel from a socket, it shatters the Jewel completely.

(Basic) Jewel Socketing Guide 5.png

But you can affix a new Jewel into the same socket. That way you can continually improve your most useful items.

Jewel Crafting

Jewels can be purchased from vendors, found as rewards from defeating creatures, opening chests, fishing, gardening, or crafted.

Crafting Jewels, however, is unlike crafting other items. There is an element of randomness that will affect the final product’s outcome each time. You can craft using the same recipe several times and receive a different result each time.

Jewel Metals

Each Jewel recipe will require a Metal, which you can receive as rewards, a Gem, which you can find or purchase from a vendor, and a Treasure Card. To craft Jewels, you will need to use a Jewel Crafting Station.

Jewel Collars

Pets level Ancient and above have access to a Jewel Collar that gives them a Jewel Socket. Customize your pet by socketing a Jewel that gives you the bonus or Pet Talent that you desire.

Jewel Collars only use new Star Shaped Jewels that come with a variety of boosts including Pet Stats, Combat Talents and Derby Talents. Star Jewels can be obtained as rewards from battle, purchased from Lowe Springfield or crafted using the recipes that he has for sale. They can also now be found within the Purreau's Plentiful Pet Provisions pack.

Each pet only has one Jewel Socket. You cannot affix a Jewel to your Pet that gives a duplicate of a talent the pet already has. Items and pets with socketed Jewels cannot be placed in the shared bank.

Ultra Pets

Pets can now be trained to the next level of Ultra. At the Ultra level, you will be able to socket your pet’s Jewel Collar with an Ultra Level Jewel. Ultra Jewels provide more powerful bonuses and Pet Talents. There are even some new talents only available on Jewels. Also, when your pet reaches Ultra level, you will receive a random Jewel as a reward, so you can socket your pet right away if you wish. You can tell which pets have a Jewel affixed because they will have a Jewel icon next to their name.
